Working Principle Of Zirconia Beads

At present, zirconia beads are mainly used as grinding me-dia.Whether wet grinding is adopted (such as by using a sand mill)or dry grinding (such as using ball mill),the working principle de-pends on the operation of the equipment, so that the zirconiabeads move at high speed, The material to be ground is introducedinto the grinding cylinder and then broken under the impact of themoving grinding bead to form finer particles. This is the core roleof zirconia beads as grinding media.

Density

The higher the density of the grinding bead is, the stronger its kinetic energyand crushing force will be, and the higher the grinding efficiency will be.However, a higher density of zirconia beads will cause more severe wear onthe contact parts of the sand mill (such as the inner cylinder, dispersion disc.etc.).

Therefore, it is of great significance to match the viscosity and flow rateof the paste reasonably. Low density zirconia beads are more suitable for lowviscosity pastes, while high density zirconia beads are more suitable for highviscosity pastes.

Particle size

The size of zirconia beads determines the number of contact points betweenthe beads and the material. Beads with smaller particle sizes have more co-ntact points at the same volume, theoretically resulting in higher grinding ef--ficiency; During the grinding process, the material that can be crushed byzirconia beads is usually less than 1/10 of the volume of zirconia beads.

Theparticle size of the input material can be controlled according to the particlesize of the zirconia beads,or the particle size of the zirconia beads can beselected according to the particle size of the material. When the particle sizeof the zirconia beads shows a state close to normal distribution, the particlesize of the ground material will be more uniform.

Hardness

The higher the hardness of the zirconia beads, does not necessarily meanthat their wear is lower. From the wear of some sand mills' wear parts, it canbe seen that the harder zirconia beads have higher wear on the contactparts, but the wear can be optimized by adjusting the filling rate, viscosityand flow rate of the paste. etc.
